We are always interested to hear news of past pupils. On November 19th we welcomed back students from last year’s Upper Sixth and Senior 5 to receive their A level and GCSE certificates. This year our guest of honour was former pupil Jonathan Cox. After leaving Twycross House in 2001 Jonathan studied Law at University College, London and then completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law. He was called to the Bar in October 2005 and completed a year's pupillage in Leicester, where he gained experience in criminal, family and civil law. It was criminal law which most appealed to him, so he was delighted to be offered a tenancy at the newly-formed Garden Square Chambers in Leicester, which specialises in this area of law. In the four years that he has practised there Jonathan has undertaken mainly prosecution but also some defence cases in Leicester and Derby Crown Courts, and occasionally also in the Court of Appeal and the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. His work covers a wide range of criminal offences: firearms, drugs, serious violence, robbery, arson, fraud and sexual offences. He regularly appears for the prosecution in cases involving large-scale, multi-defendant drug supply and fraud offences. In 2009 the Leicestershire Constabulary awarded him a 'Chief Constable's Certificate for Outstanding Work' for his contribution to Operation Clawback, a twenty-four defendant, multi-million pound money laundering conspiracy. Pictured here left Jonathan Cox. Pictured right is Ben Alun-Jones who visited Twycross House to talk to the Lower Sixth about engineering degrees at Imperial College. Ben also offered insight into the advantages of taking a gap year and working a 'Year in Industry'.
