| Sixth Form |
- 100 % pass rate at A level in 2007
- 56% of entries achieved A grade in 2007
- 84% of entries achieved A and B grades in 2007
- All pupils awarded places at their first choice university
This outstanding record of achievement in A level examinations is a result of our pupils receiving excellent tuition in small A level classes in a known and trusted environment. We take pride in our rigorous ethos, but also in the friendly, warm and purposeful relationships between our students and staff. Teaching groups are small. This enables our highly-qualified and experienced teachers to cater for the needs of individual students, offering them encouragement, motivation and support which they need to achieve their full potential. In addition, we hope to prepare our young people for the transition from school life to university and beyond. We want to encourage our sixth formers to take part in activities which involve the whole school, whether this be raising funds for a chosen charity or working on the Enterprise scheme. |

Entry Qualifications The normal requirement for entry into the VI form is six GCSEs at B grade. It is preferred that A or A* is achieved at GCSE level in those subjects to be taken at A or AS level.
Course Structure All pupils will choose four subjects for study in the VI form leading to a qualification at AS level at the end of Lower VI. They will then continue with three of these subjects (occasionally all four) to A level. This decision is taken before entry into Upper VI.
The school has a wide selection of guides to universities and careers and staff are available for support to help in the choice of possible higher education and career paths. |
|
In Lower VI pupils may use the Centigrade Scheme which assesses individuals’ interests, skills and aptitudes and suggests possible higher education course routes. This successful scheme has been used for several years.
A Higher Education evening with an external university admissions adviser is held in April of each year for pupils and their parents. In addition we aim to arrange talks by external speakers on specific careers, gap year options and year in industry schemes. We also look to former pupils to talk to the VI form to provide further insights into their own experiences in subject choice, university life and subsequent chosen career.

Activities Social activities in the VI form include regular trips to the theatre and concerts, a ski trip to Austria and a summer trip to Greece.
Members of the VI form continue with Twycross House school sports and the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. The VI form may wish to devise their own sport and social programme which could include badminton, volley ball, tennis, ballroom or modern dance and other events such as horse riding, water sports, hikes, outward bound courses and visits to the Snow Dome.
There is an active Debating Society which meets on a regular basis and the society enters local Public Speaking competitions.
Members of Lower VI are involved in the THS Enterprise Company. This gives experience of devising business ideas, running a company and contact with external business volunteers.
