Form Three Plays 2008
There was much nervous excitement in the air as both Form Threes took the stage for their annual drama production at the end of term.
Mr Perry wrote and produced 'Dr Watt and the Twycross House Mystery', an ingenious blend of science fiction and local history. The time-travelling doctor with his girl assistant arrives at Twycross House School in 1978 posing as the new history teacher, but is soon joined by two feisty girls for a trip back to the Manor of Gopeshull in the 13th century. There they encounter a band of returning Norman crusaders - yes, the knights who say 'Oui'! In short the good doctor also turns up in the village in 1750 and 1850 in search of his spatial stabiliser, which had been hidden in the mysterious tunnel in the school drive. This complex plot was played out with aplomb by the lively and confident cast, whose excellent delivery and entusiastic song-and-dance routines were much admired by the audience.
Mrs Kirkpatrick directed 'The Emperor's New Clothes', a witty and fast-moving version of the traditional story. Bogus and Fishweedle, a couple of con-men spot an opportunity to exploit the emperor's vanity with their amazing new textile, Polyfabuloso. The gullible fashionista cannot see through the fake cloth - but his subjects can, and all is revealed in the Grand Parade! This was another fine production with some excellent acting and timing from the main characters. They were ably supported by the rest of the cast in some catchy choruses.
Congratulations to the children of both forms for such a lively evening of such high-quality entertainment and thanks to the team of senior pupils for providing assistance with lighting, sound, piano accompaniment and changes of scene and properties.
Rave Reviews for the Crisp Box Theatre Co!

Pupils in Form 3 went on tour with their puppet shows and crossed the road to visit the children at the Hollies. The theatres made from cardboard boxes with painted scenery and home made crazy characters provided the perfect setting for the mini pantomimes with a twist.
Jack and the Milkshake, Little Fred Riding Hood and Cinderella were performed to great applause and a very happy time was had by all.

Lichfield Mysteries

On the last Thursday of term, Polly Dixon and Jill Taylor, the co-ordinators of the ‘Lichfield Mysteries’ came to talk to Form 5. The Lichfield Cycle of Mystery Plays is performed once every three years. The plays were first written down in 1420, although of course they date a great deal further back in time than that, and tell of the story of mankind from Creation to Doomsday.

The children were very interested in learning about the way these plays are produced and performed, and whole heartedly threw themselves into attempting to try out the different ways in which these stories are portrayed.

Twycross House School is putting on one of the plays for the 2009 production, which will take place in Lichfield on May 3rd-4th 2009, and we have chosen The Exodus. The children tried on some of the head dresses used for this story in previous productions and admired their different appearances in the mirror. They feel very privileged and thrilled to have been invited to participate in this prestigious event which is the biggest community project in Europe, and are looking forward to it with eager anticipation.

Christmas Carols
There was a time when all the parents and pupils of Twycross House School could fit comfortably into the village church!  However, on Friday 6th December there was just room for the friends and family of Form 5 who had gathered to hear them sing carols and recite Christmas readings by candle-light.  Mrs Chambers and an ensemble of senior instrumentalists accompanied them on what was a touching occasion.
Doodle4Google Winner

I was very excited to find out that I was a Doodle4Google regional winner, one of 48. As part of the competition, I had to go to London for the announcement of the winners. Mrs Eyre came with me and Google paid for us to stay overnight in the Waldorf Hotel. We arrived in London on Sunday morning, and then in the afternoon we went to the Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House. We saw Van Gogh’s self-portrait. This was really useful because I am using that as an artist reference for my GCSE art project. It was a painting I have always wanted to see. In the gallery there was a good selection of Impressionist paintings. After that we went shopping in Covent Garden. Unfortunately it was raining and cold, so we had to warm up in the shops.

On Monday morning we went to the Tate Modern Gallery where we saw the Louise Bourgeois sculpture exhibition which was amazing and this gave me lots of ideas for my work. I think her works are quite moving. We also saw the famous crack in the floor by Doris Salcedo, which was strange. Then we went to the Google offices for the presentation and attended an art workshop by the Doodle artist Dennis Hwang. It was very nerve-racking as all the regional winners were filmed talking about their work and this film can be seen on the Google website. The final and crucial part of our trip was the announcement. I won third place in my age group, which meant that I was one of the 12 age-group winners and the overall winner was Claire Rammelkamp.

I would like to thank everybody who voted for me and gave me their support, as we are only a small school and it was kind of everyone who did that. I would also like to thank Mrs Eyre who looked after me very well on the trip and gave me a chance to enter the competition. It has been a very exciting time and although I didn’t win first place it was an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.
